She sits in her Anchorage hotel room working on business for tomorrow's meetings and the laptop completely went black and will not reboot. We knew the day was coming but we didn't think this soon. So, the question is PC vs. MAC. Who is the strongest? PC appears to be a little cheaper and has more power but MAC has catchy jingles. I don't know jack about MAC. The MAC website basically says "we are better than PC." What does that tell me? Notta!!! If any of you out there have experience with both, PC and MAC clue me in. We have to act quick or Pam will become violent. Last time that happened she took her shoe off and threw it at the ground. We wouldn't want that to happen again would we??? Please help ,for pete sake a shoe may be at risk here!

Senior Season

Here are a couple of photos of Ashley. I will attempt to do better! It has been a wild and wacky summer with small changes and major life changes. Pam has accepted a position in Alaska so we packed our house and shipped it north. Pam and Molly departed yesterday and Hank and I are bachelors for a few months. I will be retiring from the Coast Guard and we will move north with Pam and Molly. But until then -FOOTBALL!!!- Hank has started practice and the late autumn nights of practice are upon us. t looks to be an exciting season and the high school team looks to have a legit shot to go deep in the play-offs! It is going to be a great season. I haven't been shooting much with the move and all but I have managed to get in a few Senior photo shoots will update with photos ASAP. Pam had business and Molly and I just hung out ansd soaked up the unique culture. Some would say Kotz is a dirty, run down town 34 miles above the Arctic Circle. I would say it is a town of layers and textures. People forget this is one harsh environment in the winter. Hard on equipment and hard on buildings and anything else exposed to the elements. Yes things could have been picked up around town but don't forget ice break up was only a month ago. Kotzebue in September is an awesome place. After Kotz, we went to Anchorage and saw the Smylie's. They took us to Hatcher Pass and we feasted on Halibut. We spent the night at Alyeska. Too bad it wasn't winter when the powder is steep and deep!

Fathers Day

How did you wake up this Father's Day morning? I woke up in a new 4 season mountaineering tent I have had my eye on for about 3 years now! Yesterday Hank and Molly surprised me with the Mountain Hardwear tent and Hank and I tested it out for the first time last night. As we laid in the new chateau, we heard racoon's fight, sea lions snarl, and the gastric windstorm caused by a certain 11 year old tent mate.

I can honestly say, I have the best kids in the world. I am proud of Nistassa and admire her independence, ability to see right from wrong and the kind heart she inherited from her Grandma. Hank is a person all to himself. He is intelligent, spiritual, thoughtful, helpful, sometimes slightly funny, and someone I look forward to spending many, many nights in a tent with. Molly aka: Brie-Brie, Spider Monkey is full of energy, has the cutest smile, very independent, and has the best laugh any Dad could ever hear!

I am lucky to have the kids I have and am proud of who they are and who they are growing to be.

Can you canoe?!?!

This past weekend I was invited to go canoeing on the Queets River in Washington. Six guys, three canoes, what could go wrong?

I grew up canoeing and my counter parts are all "experienced" Search and Rescue pilots for the Coast Guard who claim to be experienced outdoorsmaen. It was the perfect combination for a good time. Little did I know, three canoes would soon be two canoes. How soon you ask? Within 20 seconds I would say... Steve and I launched and quickly ran the first set of small rapids, we eddied out and waited for the next canoe to follow our line. Within a matter of seconds they hit the first rock broad side, Marcus was launched from the canoe and Eric fell out on the current side. Within about ten seconds the current wrapped the aluminum canoe around the rock like a piece of foil around a baked potato! No one was hurt and I couldn't stop laughing! Unfortunately their day was done before it started and one canoe was sacrafised to the God's of the mighty Queets River. I am pretty sure while we finished the 20 mile trek Marcus and Smith stripped out of their wet clothes and huddled in a sleeping bag to warm up, such actions are normal ops for Officer's -especially pilots.

Big plays by brothers!

Last night I covered the 2nd round play-off game for the Daily Astorian. With rain beating down and a 15 kt. wind I headed to the field. Pam was out of town so I had my right hand man Hank assisting me since I also had Molly on my back in a backpack. Not a fun way to shoot a game given the weather conditions! The game was the most exciting game I have been to all year. Here are a few photos and you can read the article for yourself http://www.dailyastorian.com/main.asp?SectionID=37&SubSectionID=476&ArticleID=51546

The great thing about this team is there are two sets of brothers, both Senior, Sophomore combos, and both sets of brothers compliment one another athletically and verbally. What the article won't tell you is the person who made the play of the game/season (Sam Johnson) was the only player not picked to be on the all-league team. He is the backbone of the team and there is no one more deserving! Way to prove 'em wrong Sammy!

Cooperationally challenged

A few days ago I attempted to take a few photos of Molly. Due to an injury, a coworker could not stand the watch today so I am unexpectantly filling in. So, vise taking my wife, Mom, Grandmother/s to breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner I get to post a note to the important women in my life.
I am fortunate to have numerous Mother figures. I have "my"Mom who has always been there at a moments notice for anyone in need of a helping hand. A traight she undoubtedly picked up from her Mom and my Grandma, Grandma Phyllis. Although stern at times she is ALWAYS there for anyone who may need help. There is my Grandma Lorraine who is also there for anyone who may need a helping hand. She always finds the good in everyone, no matter their faults and always carries herself with a smile that will brighten anyone's day who comes in contact with her.
There is my Mother-in-law who lends a hand to any and all! Last fall I saw her at the spur of the moment buy a wheel chair for someone in need. She didn't know who would get the high priced wheel chair, all she knew was someone needed one and she had the means to provide for the person. And although she tries to put up the tough front, we all know she is soft at heart.
Finally I would like to mention the "newest Mom",my beautiful bride Pamella. Having given birth to our cute little Molly one year ago almost to the day some may think she is a "new" Mom but in reality she is actually and old hand at the Mother thing. Having accepted Hank, Nistassa and I into her life a number of years ago some probably thought she was crazy (I still think she might be, but I think it is a herititary thing). She instantly became a Mom to Hank and Nistassa in every sense of the word and never looked back. I have never viewed her as a "step" or "part-time" parent. Her actions have always been in the kids interest and with contagious enthusiasm. She is there for Hank when he is sick, when he has a game she is the first on the side line with a camera, tutoring him with homework problems, and providing life guidence. She is always quick when it comes to helping Nistassa fill out college applications, boy problems, life lessons that could only come from a girl's perspective, answering questions in the wee hours, making dinner, or just giving a motherly hug to both kids.
I have to say when it comes to the Mom department I have been lucky in all aspects but I would have to say I am especially fortunate to have the best Mom as my wife!

A club of 1

I covered the Astoria (10-1) game against banks tonight. Last night I covered the Warrenton Clatskanie double-header. Conrad Ritchie who is the son of Lance Ritchie, my close friend from high school, plays short stop for the Clatskanie Tigers. I got a few good shots of him playing short, getting a few hits, and even pitching. Conrad said he hadn't pitched since he was a freshman. After the game was over I had an engagement shoot at the beachand this morning started off with a family shoot at Cape Dissapointment, and a portrait shoot in Cannon Beach this evening! On top of all that, I knocked out the article for the baseball game AND put Molly to bed.

Damn! How did I miss the high light of the day? Looong time friend and fellow Rescue Swimmer, Craig Green came over to Astoria with his son, Jake. We had lunch and I showed Jake the helicopter and let him put on my Swimmer gear. We even found Craig's name stuck to the ceiling amongst other names of past Swimmers in the Survival Shop! I think Jake was pretty impressed.

Clatsop Clash of the area track and fielders

Yesterday Hank and I made the treck down to Seaside to cover the meet for the Daily Astorian . First she took a whopping six steps for Pam. Second, she crawled to Hank's room and banged on the door until her big brother graciously let her into his domain. Once in, she laughed and giggled out of control because she was happy to be with big bro. Third, our little spider monkey went to bed and fell fast asleep within 20 minutes. You have no idea what an incredible feat this is. I think she has officially established a bedtime for herself and is now sleeping through the night!
