Six Steps

Today our little girl has stepped out of her baby persona and stepped into her "look at me, I have a personality" persona. First she took a whopping six steps for Pam. Second, she crawled to Hank's room and banged on the door until her big brother graciously let her into his domain. Once in, she laughed and giggled out of control because she was happy to be with big bro. Third, our little spider monkey went to bed and fell fast asleep within 20 minutes. You have no idea what an incredible feat this is. I think she has officially established a bedtime for herself and is now sleeping through the night! We have made it through the baby stage -I think.

Logger Action

Last night hank and covered the Knappa Logger game for the Daily Astorian. It was the first baseball game the sun has shined at this year... Here is a picture of last year's league player of the year, Gary Aho bringing the heat from the mound.

SERE SCHOOL

Today I was called in to fly 5 miles off Tillamook where the Air Force had 18 students floating in two rafts. They were students in a SERE School class (Survival Escape Resistence Evade) and were learning the finer points of freezing their asses off in 46 degree water, and learning the joys of bobbing up in down for ten hours in 8-10 foot seas. I snapped a few photo's before jumping in to pull them out of the drink. After swimming around with these fine chaps I can definitely say I am glad I joined the Coast Guard. -nuff said.

33 Game win streak comes to an end

Last night I covered the Astoria-Scapoose game for the Daily Astorian. Scapoose squeaked out a win ending the Fishermen's 33 game winning streak in league play.
Pictured above Dane Lund attempts to protect the plate from Scapoose's Sean Wasson who scored the first of six runs against the Fishermen.

Morning Ascent

I shot this a few days ago at about the 7500 foot level. More poeple climb Mount Hood than any other mountain in North America.

Wedding kanked?

Yesterday while doing senior portraits for a couple of great kids from Milwuakie High School, I spotted this scorned bride running down the street. Who could pass up a picture like this?

Day on the Deschutes

Yesterday Rob Meeks of the Oregon Whitewater Association invited me to tag along on a trip down the Deschutes River. So Dan Berger and I made the trek to Maupin where we made a few new friends and enjoyed a day on the river. 80 degrees is hard to beat especially since I can't remember the last time I saw the sun!

Front Page Week!

After making the front page with an article I wrote for the Daily Astorian I made the front page of the Oregonian with an article written about Rescue Swimmers!

and here is a link to the slide show as well.

Front Page!

I mentioned an article I wrote and shot about rogue fishing gear cleaned off the bottom of the ocean floor. Low and behold, it ran on the front page today! Read for yourself.

Where is Ralph Miller?

Why would OSU hire Craig Robinson to be the next basketball coach? Why wouldn't they go after any one of a number of available coaches with proven track records? Is it because they hope Obama wins the presidentcy therefore the president will make a couple of appearances to an OSU game? That would be one way to bring people in to that barn they call an arena. Or is it because they refuse to spend the money to build a quality basketball team. This is a D-1 school that used to have a top notch hoops program. Time to get a new Athletic Director, one who wants to bring back BEAVER NATION! Someone needs to tell A.C. Green and Charlie Sitton to get off the sofa and help their school...

Latest article

Astoria catcher Dane Lund smacks a double to deep leftcenter field in a 12-2 winover the Seaside Gulls'. Lund's Mom can be seen just above the bat!

Last night Hank and I covered the Astoria-Seaside double header for tthe "Daily Astorian". It was 39 degrees and I only wore a long sleeve T-shirt. For pete sakes, it's springtime! Both games were blow outs and the Fighting Fishermen are looking like a force to be reckoned with. Read for yourself Fishermen strike early, keep Gulls at bay in doubleheader

Saving our waters

Yesterday I was asked by the Daily Astorian to do an article on a group who's mission is to clean up the sea floor. Their goal is to recover old crab pots, fishing gear, and any other debris they can get their grappling into. When they returned to the dock Seaside High School's budding Marine Biologists were there to examine the derelict gear.

Slow day at the Oregonian

Last week reporters came to the Air Station following a story they were doing on training, politicians, etc. Low and behold, I get a phone call Monday from one of the reporters from the Oregonian. She had spoken with her editor and they have decided to do a front page article on me. I know what you are thinking, why me? They say it is because I am one of the first group of Rescue Swimmers (first Rescue Swimmer in Texas) and because I am a local boy from Oregon. Actually a large percentage of Rescue Swimmers hale from Oregon. Probably the largest per capita! Anyway, it must be a slow day at the Oregonian. My only hope is my buddy Craig can come over and shoot the story for them. He has been dieing to get up in the helicopter.

Waiting on democrats...

I spotted this chap gazing out the window today. His buddies said he refuses to eat until the democratic race comes to an end.
